About.
Foundation
The first ideas of a PhD Day arose at a meeting in the PhD Association at BIO in February 2012. A group of PhD students, representing many different sections, were then assembled with the purpose of creating an interdisciplinary scientific and social event for all students and staff members at BIO. Inspired by other departments and Faculties at the University of Copenhagen, the PhD association started an annual tradition with the first PhD day held 15th of November 2012, which was followed by the second PhD day 14th of November 2013 and the third PhD day on November 13th 2014.
"Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after"
- Anne Morrow Lindbergh -

4th PhD day 2015
All PhD students as well as their supervisors, BSc and MSc students and other staff members at BIO and SNM are encouraged to attend this significant social and academic event. The PhD day is an opportunity for PhD students to present their work to their peers at an exclusive event, develop presentation skills and practice promotion of scientific results. There will be ample opportunities for discussions and feedback, and the event is an opportunity for all participants to get an impression of the body of research being conducted in the department and to network with possible future collaborators. The PhD day program also includes high-profile keynote speakers and a feature about opportunities during your scientific career.
The audience can influence who wins the prizes and awards by voting for the best presentation and poster, additionally there will be a science communication talk, and we got the Lundbeck auditorium as a location for the venue.
"The two words 'information' and 'communication' are often used interchangeably, but they signify quite different things.
Information is giving out; communication is getting through."
- Sydney Justin Harris -

Aims of the PhD Day
Dissemination
A central aim is the dissemination of own research to a broad audience with biological background. As part of this, each participant, whether giving a talk or not, should join in constructive discussions and dialogue.
Networking
Hopefully, this initiative will stimulate networking and novel interdisciplinary collaborations. It is therefore most conducive that this day includes a broad range of staff members, including BSc and MSc students, PhD students, junior researchers, VIPs and TAPs.
Fellowship
We hope that the PhD Day, as a social and scientific event, will bridge the gap between research groups and sections and strengthen the spirit of community among the PhDs.
Communication
We would like the event to support the PhD students’ work and career by all of the above as well as by offering a feature on communication of science.
We are looking forward to seeing you,
The PhD Day Comittee
